Panthers’ Steve Smith Suspended by Team 2 Games!

Friday morning on Wofford’s campus, in Spartanburg, SC where the Carolina Panthers hold training camp, a cat fight broke out. Only these guys were throwing punches and not hissing at each other. Apparently a fight broke out on the sideline between the rambunctious duo of Ken Lucas and notorious Steve Smith. These guys seem to get into it a lot and Steve Smith has been known to clock one of his teammates before.

The team did not sound real thrilled about what this has in store for their preparedness of the 2008 NFL season but it’s the second fight between teammates this week and this time Lucas looks like he got knocked the f&$k out! Both Smith and Lucas are fiery competitors but they have to realize they’re on the same team and this aggression and emotion needs to be going into building a team. Jakey Jakey knows when people makes big mistakeys but he also knows that these guys have been around for a while and the team knows how to respond and deal with it. “I truly, truly don’t anticipate this having a lingering effect on this team,” said Delhomme. “We were talked to, things were squashed, that was it. It happened.”  (CharlotteObserver.com)  The only thing that got squashed was Ken Lucas’ left eye.

The good thing about this is that it should bring them closer. If I remember correctly the Panthers had a good year when Steve Smith broke a mate’s nose, but I could be completely wrong. It was announced today, Saturday that The Panthers have decided to suspend Smith for 2 regular season games. The team will allow for him to participate in practice and all pre-season games which should ease the tensions between the two teammates before the season starts. It’s funny I was reading an article in the Greensboro News & Record from Friday morning that was about Steve Smith’s maturity and referred back to the first fight he got into… Panthers WR Smith suspended two games
